The Benefits of Dial Rocket and How it Works

What is Dial Rocket?

Dial Rocket speeds up your Internet experience, by up to fourteen times, using your existing dial-up phone line and modem. You do not require any extra equipment. Dial Rocket allows you to surf at near DSL speed, making Dial Rocket the high-speed Internet solution with the convenience of dialup. It is easy to install, runs seamlessly and doesn’t alter any of your existing software. You can also control the amount of compression vs. speed gain yourself.

What gets accelerated?

Dial Rocket compresses the following elements of web pages in order to send the information to your computer faster:

  • Web pages – HTML markup and JavaScript

  • Graphics including JPEG and GIF images

  • Text

  • Email on the web

What will not be accelerated?

Although Dial Rocket is able to compress many different types of online data, there are a few which cannot be accelerated:

  • Streaming media, audio and video files

  • Secure pages, such as those used for online banking and credit card forms

  • Files and attachments such as music or digital photos

How does it work?

With traditional dial-up methods, the text and graphics that make up web pages get sent from the server to you over your phone line. Because of the large amount of data required to be sent, this process can be painfully slow. Dial Rocket compresses this data using a proprietary technology, and sends it over your existing dial-up phone line. This compression process allows a smaller amount data to be sent – up to five times less – making the download time of your web pages and your online experience that much faster. As an added download time reducer, Dial Rocket stores elements of the web sites you visit frequently eliminating the need to re-download them every time you visit these sites.

Installing Dial Rocket on your computer:

  • First double click the DIALROCKET Installer File and follow the instructions to install the software.
  • Insert the username and password you have been issued when asked to.
  • To optimize your Dial Rocket click on the blue, with green and red icon on the right side of the taskbar below and choose settings.
  • The first tab 'Image Quality' allows you to choose the image quality you wish to view web pages in. Most users adjust this down one notch for normal browsing and up to download images they want to print.
  • The next tab 'Connection' brings up your connection information and is where you change your user name and password if required. It is recommended to check off Save Password if it is not already checked. Don't make any changes in Advanced unless instructed to do so.
  • The next tab 'Update' displays the version information of the software along with the latest version. If the versions differ the 'Update now' button will be enabled. If you want to automatically update to the latest version of the client software click this button.
  • The next tab 'Proxy Exclusion' is where you would enter any sites you don't want compressed. A good example is windowsupdate.microsoft.com the Microsoft update site. The Update downloads aren't compressed any further so it is better to download them directly instead of through the Dial Rocket compression server, but it is your choice. If you add a site to this list and you can't access it remove it again.

The other settings you want to check out are the Pop-Up Blocker settings. Click the icon again and if you want PopUps blocked click 'Enable PopUp Blocker'. Most people also click 'Block Floating Flash-Ads' and some want to be beeped when a PopUp is blocked and click the box below.

You may want some PopUps. To allow popups from any particular site enter the originating domain name in the White List.

The 'Logging' gives you a list of all of the pages that have been accessed and the number of popups blocked. To clear this log press 'Clear Log'

If you want to know how well Dial Rocket is doing click the icon and click on 'Statistics' and 'Details' This will tell you how much faster you are going. To reset push the 'Reset' button.

You have now setup Dial Rocket. If you have troubles the first thing to do is to check the settings mentioned above. If that doesn't work then reinstall setup the software. If that doesn't work give us a call at (780) 929-6675 for further assistance.
